Presidential Awardee Leads Tree Planting Campaign in Homa Bay.

Nuhu Abdul Omollo, recently honored with a Head of State Commendation (HSC), has intensified efforts to promote tree planting in Homa Bay County.

As the patron of the community-based organisation ‘Plant Trees for a Better Environment,’ Omollo has encouraged residents to increase tree planting initiatives. He emphasized the importance of restoring the ecosystem to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

Omollo attributed the HSC award, presented during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations, to his dedication to environmental conservation and his role as a peace advocate in the county. He explained that his efforts to preserve the environment had gained recognition, inspiring him to continue promoting sustainable practices in the community.

Celebrating at Ng’oche Jamia Mosque

Omollo marked the award by planting 200 trees at the Ng’oche Jamia Mosque compound. He expressed gratitude to the Muslim community, County Commissioner Moses Lilan, and the President for the recognition.

The mosque held special significance for Omollo, as he began his leadership journey there. He noted that the celebration was both a tribute to his roots and a token of appreciation.

The Supkem secretary in Homa Bay County stated that tree planting aligns with the President’s call to plant 15 billion trees in the next decade. Omollo stressed that embracing this initiative would lead to increased rainfall, better crop yields, and abundant vegetables and fruits, which would help combat hunger in the region.

Family and Community Support
Omollo was accompanied by family members, including his uncle, Juma Masoud, and his brother, Musa Abdul, during the tree planting activity. Their presence underscored the importance of family and community in advancing his environmental goals.

Meanwhile, Omari Issa Maloba, the head of Ng’oche Jamia Mosque, acknowledged the President’s appeal for citizens to plant trees. He appreciated the initiative to restore water towers and mitigate the effects of climate change, which are critical to sustaining the environment in Homa Bay County.
